Prep Your HVAC For Cold Temps

The weather is getting colder, and more heating systems are being turned on for the first time in months!  There’s a few simple things you can do to make sure your HVAC is working properly.  First, check the air filter.  Since we don’t see it regularly, we often forget it is even there.  However, a clogged filter can reduce the effectiveness of your fan, resulting in less hot air flowing through the ducts.  And while we’re on the subject of ducts, another helpful tip is to remove the grates and use a vacuum hose to remove any accumulated dust or grime from the vents.  Many HVAC units are stuffed into a closet or attic.  Make sure there’s adequate air flow around the unit, instead of piling up junk nearby.  Simple maintenance like this can drastically improve the effectiveness of your unit, or in extreme cases, even prevent a fire!  So before you switch on the heat to get cozy, try a few of these tips first so you’ll get comfortable even quicker!
